Introduction

"MR Space" is a forward-looking mixed reality application designed to showcase the latest features of MR. Its main purposes are to provide Pico users with the following knowledge:

1. What is MR and its main features and functions.

2. How MR is used and its possibilities in practical situations.

3. Using various features of MR, MR Space is designed with a Chinese New Year theme to provide users with a series of imaginative and gamified experiences.

Gameplay

The game consists of four parts, each with a different gameplay.

  1. Calligraphy challenge:The first challenge is an important tradition in the Chinese New Year: writing the word "福" (fú) and pasting it on the wall. "福" symbolizes luck and prosperity. In the MR environment, players will simulate the process of writing "福" and pasting it on the wall. Once completed, the wall will transform into a virtual environment, showcasing the first feature of MR: the seamless transition between the real and virtual worlds.

  2. SHUMP - Defeat the year beastThe second challenge showcases the second aspect of the MR environment: the integration of the real and virtual worlds. This chapter combines various mechanisms of the "shump" game genre with the traditional Chinese New Year custom of setting off firecrackers and driving away the mythical "year beast". This not only demonstrates the novel features of MR, but also incorporates Chinese traditional culture into the gaming experience.

  3. MR Snake - Dragon Dance:The third challenge features a transformation and breakthrough of game mechanics in the MR environment. In this chapter, we developers have taken the traditional two-dimensional game of Snake and transformed it into a three-dimensional game. Players must control a dragon dance wand to guide a divine dragon to eat randomly generated light balls in the space to gain points. This chapter not only incorporates the Chinese New Year tradition of dragon dance, but also provides a fresh perspective on how the Snake game can perform and function in an updated interactive MR environment.

  4. Interactive audio-visual experience - Kongming lantern:The final gameplay represents the peak of Jesse Schell's Interest Curve theory from "The Art of Game Design." After generating player interest in the first part and setting up the storyline in the second and third parts, the fourth part elevates the festive mood of the entire Chinese New Year to its pinnacle. This chapter combines the traditional practice of launching Kongming lanterns during the Chinese New Year with the ultimate high point of the game. As players choose their blessings and release the lanterns, the backdrop of a stunning ancient Chinese city is illuminated with various dazzling fireworks, allowing players to achieve an ideal emotional state and providing a perfect conclusion to the entire experience.
